Last night London celebrated the life of Judy Blame with a night of music, art and shared stories. With musicians Bishi Bhattacharya, Neneh Cherry, designer Pam Hogg, singing for her friend, a live feed from Joey Arias , the band Wild Daughter performed, and i-d presenting a video in his honour, guest speakers and images from renown London photographers from Juergen Teller to Nick Knight shared throughout the evening.
VFD holds a strong love and history with the man with his face adorning many fashion shoots shot here over time from hat designer Piers Atkinson and to the House of Organza.
In 2009 designer Lyall Hakaraia and stylist Kim Howells have joined forces to lead London's most fabulous fashion pack to take the canvas of the white organza and create a unique piece in their own discipline. The diaphanous material was to briefly adorn the actual structure of VFD itself had it not been for the charming weather London is experiencing but the halls of VFD in Dalston, where the House of Organza was based, are covered with the fabric instead.
In line with Judy’s lifelong commitment to nurturing young talents, it is hoped that eventually the Trust will be able to provide students with not only access to his work as a resource, but also some financial assistance.
