The eye of God.
In grief my eyes are sorted.
And I'm prettier, blinded with a bloodied bandage.
The sun who casts me in his shadow to set.
My lame eyes path illuminated with stars
- cast by tears l've wept.
MANAWATIA A MATARIKI
MATARIKI - An open star cluster appearing in the southern hemispheres midwinter - signifying the beginning of the Mãori New Year.
A time for introspection and cleansing - A departure from grief and of hardship - A welcome embrace with the kiss of Tawhirimateas winds - breathing new life into the year.
This was a collaborative piece produced by families, youths and community members in honour of Matariki - the Mãori New Year.
The effort put into this piece highlights the process of producing it - being collaboration, sharing food (Kai), and coming together as community.
Facilitated by the inter-island collective hosted at Moku (64 Stoke Newington Rd)
